It’s been a while I left Perth, it’s not really a fantastic place but it does have some really good things I wished we had in Malaysia, which I doubt we are going to have in another 50 years.
- The weather – Spring and Autumn
- The architecture and their pedestrian friendly streets/city
- Online shopping
- The wonderful culture and friendly people
- Convenient banking system with EFTpos
- Safety (way much safer than Malaysia)
- and most important of all, the broadband (super fast and stable)
Why am I back in Malaysia? To be honest, I have absolutely no idea. Probably it is the night life I missed the most in Malaysia, or the opportunity available in Malaysia. In Australia, one has to be the smartest to be successful, whereas in Malaysia, one only needs to be smart to climb the ladder of success; competition is at its minimum or non existence due to the government’s policy.

Malaysian
on October 20th, 2010Returned to Malaysia about 2 weeks ago after a week-long holiday in Perth. These are the things I’ve missed (and the things that are making me think about migrating out of Malaysia)- i think i agree with most of what you wrote:
a) safety (coming home to read about people killed by snatch-thieves, ladies & children raped is just too depressing)
b) the spring weather (don’t know about autumn, wasn’t there to witness it)..lovely, lovely cool weather…and as soon as i got out of Air Asia’s door, blistering heat in KL…*sigh*
c) the cultured people…they were polite, friendly..unless they’re drunk, of course..hah! oh and wait, there was one unfortunate incident – my family’s car got pelted with an egg by a car driving by, probably saw us ladies with our scarves on…ignorant Australian youth..oh well…
d) the beautiful lakes and rivers…breathtaking! our rivers are so murky and dirty…filled with garbage (or in case of Sungai Panchau in Banting, filled with human bones *yikes!*
e) the laid-back life style…i don’t know if i agree with your view on minimum competition in Malaysia’s working environment..we’re all stressed out in my organization..work late almost every day, even have to come in during the weekends…have always thought that Asians work twice as hard than anyone else.
f) No traffic jams, no tolls!
