I bought a Maneki Neko, also known as the ‘Money Cat’ or ‘Fortune Cat’ in Mandarin. I had no idea it was a Japanese good luck charm until I read about it in Wikipedia (Maneki Neko) , it says:

The Maneki Neko (招き猫, literally “Beckoning Cat”; also known as Welcoming Cat, Lucky Cat, Money cat or Fortune Cat) is a common Japanese sculpture, often made of porcelain or ceramic, which is believed to bring good luck to the owner. The sculpture depicts a cat (traditionally a Japanese Bobtail) beckoning with an upright paw, and is usually displayed—many times at the entrance—in shops, restaurants, pachinko parlors, and other businesses. Some of the sculptures are electric or battery-powered and have a slow-moving paw beckoning. In the design of the sculptures, a raised right paw supposedly attracts money, while a raised left paw attracts customers.

I always wanted a Maneki Neko, but most of the sculpture I came across are coated with a layer of shiny gold like material or it usually comes with a slow-moving paw that is ugly. Maybe luck wasn’t on my side until I stumbled upon this cute looking Maneki Neko at the Japanese Food Store in NZX Ara Damansara.

Do I feel lucky or richer? Not really, thanks to Maneki Neko, my wallet is short of RM28.

I am beginning to agree with some of the people I’ve met over the years on the quality of our local university graduates – they can’t think out of the box, hold on, let me rephrase that – they don’t think at all! Look around you, how many successful local university graduates are there? Even college students with non existence facilities in their college managed to outperform them in almost every field. Could it possibly be the English language and foreign syllabus used in local colleges?

I do understand one of the reason being the spoon feeding system introduced by our beloved government, thus causing them to think (or not to think) in a creative way. Thinking aloud is a crime! I don’t want to go about bashing all local university graduates as if I am a bright student during my university years, to be honest; I am below average, an average Joe! However, I have come to understand that our local graduates do not even possess an IQ of an 11 years old kid of any first world country. At least these kids can articulate their original ideas constructively; heck I bet they even have a higher IQ than most of our top students from our local university graduates.

When I say local university graduates are like zombies, I mean it! If I were to brief them on how to solve a problem, they would go about using the same technique over and over again without coming up with a better alternative.

Completing their assignments is all about translating something from English to the Malay language, or to rephrase it without knowing the actual purpose of the assignment – to think differently! What do they teach them in Malaysia’s local university? The copy, paste and translate system?

Something is seriously wrong with our Malaysian university, thinking is a crime, and thinking aloud is seditious! If money is not an issue, sending your kids to any local college in Malaysia is a better choice that any of our local universities, that include TAR College and some of the smaller colleges, even the polytechnic in Singapore appears to be a better choice! The last thing we need is a nation filled with non thinking zombie people.

P.S. We need a new government!

I have to admit that I am not a big fan of communist but when it comes to attacking China and their human rights record, I am definitely on the Chinese side not because I am a Han Chinese but the idea of another person claiming that they are holier than thou.

I do understand that certain parties are concerned about the human rights record in China, especially Tibet, then again if we were to take a step back and think, who are these people to go about telling the world how China should govern its own country and states, yes, Tibet is a state and it belongs to China, it was part of China during the Qing dynasty – before the birth of America and the discovery of the new world. Don’t believe me? Check out the Qing Dynasty map from Wikipedia.

I do understand that the main argument justified by outsiders are the concern of human rights, not to mention the idea of Tibet as a self govern country as opposed to an autonomy state under China now. Again, that is an internal problem within China, unlike the Europeans that went around the world colonizing and enslaved the local people; Tibet was integrated into China peacefully during the Qing Dynasty.

It is rather ironic that it is justifiable to wipe off another race 400 years ago but it is ethically wrong to do so now, because this is the 21st century?

That is a really weak argument, time does not erase our past mistakes, instead it should be the reason why we should learn and not to repeat the same mistakes again. I strongly believe that most people would go on and claimed that no crime was committed now, or so it seems?

As an overseas born Chinese, shouting the ‘Free Tibet’ slogan is none of my business, and the same rules applies for the westerners. For westerners to shout ‘Free Tibet’ is an act of double standard or being a hypocrite, it is not wrong to do so, but it just doesn’t seem right because as we all knows that there are still ongoing crimes by the westerners as we speak. For instant, where is the ‘Free West Bank’ protest? Why paint an entire different picture of China when Israel is colonizing West Bank since 1967 through military. Where are the human rights that these holier than thou people claimed to be defending?

Defending human rights is essential, but don’t go on claiming to be the champion of human rights and a freedom fighter for Tibetans only, yes, you heard me loud and clear, go on and start a street protest on Israel and the West Bank issue and not just Tibet itself.

Do tell me which country was attacked or conquered by China through the use of military? Can’t think of any? When you’re done genuinely thinking, name me the countries that the Europeans and Americans savaged? The land of the dragon may appear to be the next superpower but given a choice, I would prefer to have both the Westerners and Chinese working together as friends towards a better future than to witness World War 3 – it won’t be a pretty sight when Nuclear weapons are used.
